Tetrahedral DCTL in DaVinci Resolve
Tetrahedral DCTL in DaVinci Resolve
Based on Steve Yedlin's research into Tetrahedral Colour here's a port of it in Resolve in a practical application. The basis of the Tetra DCTL is to a film like Cyan, Magenta & Yellow subtractive colour system, to emulate how film works. Here's what it looks looks like in the GUI, a simplification of the matrices and CLT workflow either in Fusion or Nuke.
Below there's a before and after of the DCTL from I a project that I'm currently working on. It's a subtle application of it, using it to split tone with cooled shadows and denser skin-tones.
All of this fits into a Colour Managed workflow, for most Projects in my case that's either using Arri Wide Gamut LogC3 or DaVinci Wide Gamut Intermediate as a working colour-space.
The image below was shot on a Canon C70 in RAW LT.

Creating Preset & Adjustable Looks with the Tetra DCTL
I had this thought about 'What's the best way to save different looks or presents in Tetra?'. Resolve stills with defined parameters that can be dragged onto a Node, I came with three different presets that I'm calling 'Blue', 'Green' and 'Magenta'. Blue is what's seen above, the other two draw some of the their inspiration from Joker 2019 and Babylon 2022, it's just something that lets me quickly audition certain looks. There's some comparison images down below, it's all bit Work in Progress right now.
